Frederick A. Hauber, M.D.

Frederick A. Hauber, M.D. P.A., is a board certified ophthalmologist and has served as the medical director for Pasco Eye Institute since 1982.
He specializes in cataract and refractive surgery and has a special interest in diabetic retinopathy. A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Dr. Hauber graduated cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh in 1970 where he received a degree in microbiology and biophysics, he then went on to receive his medical degree from the University of Tennessee in 1974. He completed his internship and residency in ophthalmology at the University of South Florida College of Medicine in 1982, where he now serves as an assistant clinical professor.
Dr. Hauber's research interests are in the areas of glaucoma filtration devices and intraocular lenses.
He is the first clinical investigator in the United States for the Optimed Glaucoma Pressure Regulator, which is a surgically implanted filtration device designed to facilitate intraocular pressure control.

He is also a contributor to the development of the Phoenix Laser which is used to correct nearsightedness and astigmatism using laser technology.

In April 1993, Dr. Hauber was awarded a patent for an intraocular achromatic lens. The lens is designed to correct color wavelengths on the retina, thus improving overall image quality for cataract patients. In February 1994, Dr. Hauber was named in the 1994-95 edition of the 'Marquis Who's Who in Science and Engineering' and 'Who's Who in the South and Southwest.'

His work in cataract and refractive surgery and glaucoma research has made him highly sought after as a consultant for corporate and research organizations and has garnered him speaking engagements at ophthalmic societies in Ireland, Japan, Korea, Spain, Austria, Germany and throughout the United States. In 1992, he was a guest of Professor Fyodorov at the Research and Technology Complex in Moscow where radial keratotomy surgery was first developed. Dr. Fyodorov has been featured on '60 Minutes' and is considered a great innovator in ophthalmology as well as the father of radial keratotomy

In 1989, Dr. Hauber co-founded the Pasco County Chapter of the American Diabetes Association and currently serves as that organization's Director of Professional Education. He also serves as a volunteer ophthalmologist for the Good Samaritan Clinic and the Human Development Center. He is a fellow of the Academy of Ophthalmology, American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Emergency Room Physicians. Other professional memberships include:  American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Kerato-Refractive Society, Outpatient Surgical Society, Florida Medical Society and the Pasco County Medical Society.

Dr. Hauber lives in Crystal Beach with his 2 children.
